More Couches... and Floors!
I'm in Colorado. For two summers 'Back in the Day' I lived here. It's nice to be back. Plus... Mountains! I never seem to get tired of looking at them.
Its been a roller coaster of living situations lately. A friend's condo in Boulder, my old college roommate in Littleton and most recently the floor of a 1940's era trailer in Salida.
I have to say the digs in Salida have been my favorite. Adam and Mica (pictured inside their 'tin can') are some of my good friends from Grand Marais. When he's around, Adam is one of my main adventure buddy's and is always up for a run, mountain bike or whatever.
Sometime last fall, they came up with the crazy idea to take a leave of absence from their jobs, rent their house out, buy a trailer, load up skis, kayaks, bikes, dogs, camping gear (am I missing anything here) and be ski bums. I wouldn't call it a midlife crisis - just another adventure. They're going back to their normal life in Grand Marais... eventually. But first a raft trip and some more mountain biking.
I spent a couple of days at Sierra Designs getting the final kinks worked out of the Big Kev (the tent not the person). Special thanks go to Phil Mesdag who has been critical in assisting with the design. Also sorted the sleeping bag situation for North Pole, South Pole and Everest - looks like SD will make a new super light -20 down bag for the three legs. Then there was the down jacket revamp for North Pole/South Pole, down suits for Everest, marketing with Sue and a few other details.
There were other things too. Some crazy filming with Scream Agency (more on that one later), meetings with potential sponsors and pitching a collaborative project with the group from Protect Our Winters.
Last week I received a little tongue lashing from web ubermeister, Tim Harincar at x-journal.com. The result: I promise to update this web site at least once a week. Seriously. For sure. Hopefully.
In the mean time, if you are really into the whole social networking thing, you can follow me on n Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=38756526966&ref=mf. Please ask all your friends to join as well. You can also catch me on Twitter (ericlars), YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/savethepoles) and Flickr ( http://www.flickr.com/groups/savethepoles/). I'm sure there are a few other things out there as well. Linked In, My Space but those aren't nearly as cool. Lastly, if you haven't already, please link to my web sites - www.savethepoles.com and www.ericlarsenexplore.com. As you obviously know, all these links, groups and who knows what else helps everyone in the entire universe learn more about this unique story and what we can all do to help reduce carbon emissions.
Now, I'm going to play. Adam hooked me up with a free lift ticket at Monarch and with the blizzard last night its going to be a powder day for me and my new Karhu boards.
